Our History
The Whangarei Business Womens’ Network was set up by Barbara Jaques in response to the requests by many women who had been part of the Her Business Network in Whangarei in 2010. The network held its first event in March 2011 and has been providing an opportunity for Whangarei businesswomen to connect, share and learn in a supportive, friendly environment each month. The last couple of years has seen the network revert to connecting via Zoom and this year, 2022 events will resume in person, with limited numbers at each event.
Who runs the network?
Barbara Jaques is a local solopreneur working as a coach and trainer under the name of mindMoves. She’s a Northlander and has been operating her business in Whangarei since 2008, providing one-to-one coaching and training as well as large group public workshops and bespoke in-house for businesses and organisations.
She loves connecting people.
“As an introvert at heart it’s not been easy for me to create connections. Moving to Whangarei from little ol’ Kaiwaka was a massive leap for me. Over my working years, I’ve learned to put on my ‘big girl pants’ and get on with it. I often get the tummy worms before presenting or hosting an event, and this fades into the distance when I experience the buzz from people who’ve met a new friend or reacquainted with a past friend. It makes it all worthwhile. I find it such a privilege to share tools and resources to make life easier, and doing biz is so much easier when we know who to talk to. That’s the essence of what the WBWN is all about.”
